Negroni Kit

A negroni kit is simple to make and a negroni is one of the hottest drink trends right now. This cocktail can be enjoyed for a romantic date night in, a dinner party, a cocktail or happy hour. A Negroni is century old drink original from Italy apparently invented by Count Camillo Negroni in Florence, Italy. He wanted something a little bit stronger than Americano he usually had. The negroni is italian drink or also known as an Italian Aperitivo that complex in taste but very simple to make.

To make a negroni kit, you will need to know that it is simple cocktail with just three spirits/ingredients –

• Campari
• a red vermouth
• gin

and is usually garnished with an orange peel.

There is even a negroni week, September 14-20 this year, to celebrate this cocktail. If you want something similar to a negroni but lighter & less try an aperol spritz.

How to Make a Negroni Kit

Now if you are going to make a negroni cocktail set you need campari, vermouth and gin. The cocktail results of are only as good as its ingredients.

One the spirits that make a negroni a negroni is a Campari. Campari is an Italian aperitif, which is cocktail that you usually drink before a meal. There is no Negroni without Campari. This is what officially makes it a negroni in many cocktail makers and bartenders alike eyes. And no negroni should never be made without. For Campari, there is no substitute really for this.

Vermouth is another ingredient that is a must for this cocktail. Vermouth is a liqueur in which wine has been added. You can have a dry version or a sweet version. For this kit you will need the sweet vermouth. For vermouth, there are several options. Here are my recommendations –

• Carpano Antica Formula Vermouth
•  Cinzano 1757 or Cinzano Rosso
• Martini & Rossi Rosso

For gin, while all of those gins might make a decent cocktail, here are the recommendations for a negroni because the gin can make or break a negroni-

• Tanqueray
• Hendrick’s Gin
• Aviation

And just a quick note about gin. If you don’t my recommendations, please do not go to cheapest gin available. It is worth investing in a good gin. Good gin = good drinks and that is not only with the negroni.
